Dr. Phil F. Cruz A graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. He completed his clinical year at Purdue University and has a special interest in surgery and cytology. He is a native of Miami and has been in small animal practice since his graduation. Dr. Cruz is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Florida Veterinary Medical Association, and the South Florida Veterinary Medical Association. He is married and has two beautiful girls and enjoys camping, hiking, and the outdoors. His pets (at this time) include a black mixed named “Maxi”, two cats named “Tiki” and “Echo” and a fish called “Tails”.
Dr. Laura Carulla grew up in Havana, Cuba and moved to Miami after high school. She was always drawn to science and had a special fondness of animals. She decided to combine her love of pets and medicine and pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
Dr. Carulla graduated from Florida International University (FIU) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2017 and earned her DVM from St George’s university in 2022. Her Professional interests include soft tissue surgery and dermatology. Dr. Carulla has been involved in the veterinary field working as a technician and volunteering with shelters, low income veterinary services, and wildlife sanctuaries for over 10 years.
Together with her fiancé, she has 2 rescued cats, Pushi and Mitsu.
Dr. Lynette Ferrer is a Miami native and small animal veterinarian, with a strong background in both private practice and high-volume general practice medicine. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from St. Matthews School of Veterinary Medicine in Grand Cayman after completing her undergraduate studies in Pre-Veterinary Medicine at Florida State University.
Dr. Ferrer has several years of experience providing comprehensive wellness care, preventative medicine, and medical management for a wide range of small animal patients. Her clinical training includes rotations at the University of Georgia Small and Large Animal Hospital, externships in both private practice and high-volume clinical environments, as well as international surgical experience with World Vets in Nicaragua.
Known for her compassionate approach and clear communication style, Dr. Ferrer values building strong, trusting relationships with pet owners and believes thoughtful client education is essential to quality patient care. She is fluent in both English and Spanish and is committed to providing attentive, individualized care to every patient she treats.
Dr. Gregory Kushner is a compassionate and skilled veterinarian with over 10 years of experience in small animal medicine. A graduate of St. George's University with top honors, he is known for his kind-hearted bedside manner, diagnostic precision, and dedication to strengthening the human-animal bond. Dr. Kushner is USDA-accredited, allowing him to assist clients with international travel for their pets. He is also certified in hospice and palliative care, and by July 2026, he will be certified in acupuncture, expanding his clinical approach to offer more holistic and non-invasive therapies to assist in your pet's health and well-being.
Cheryl is a proud Miami native with over 20 years of veterinary experience, caring for animals and supporting pet parents since 2001. She has a genuine love for animals and enjoys helping families feel comfortable and supported at every visit. Outside of veterinary medicine, she runs a small food catering business with her children—combining family, culture, and a love for bringing people together through delicious food.
Emily is a Veterinary Technician that has brought her talents to Red Bird Animal Clinic in 2022 and has been providing excellent patient care since.
Gina is a Veterinary Technician who recently came to share her talents at Red Bird Animal Clinic after 3 years of experience. She enjoys reading in her free time and spending time with her 2 dogs and her cat.
GuiAlix is a young college student currently getting his Bachelor in psychology. He's working toward becoming a Mixed Practice Veterinarian, specializing in Internal Medicine. G is a musician, enjoys a good adventure, spending time with family and friends, the gym, and the beach.
Michelle is currently at City College to be a certified Vet Technician. She is working toward opening a dog boarding facility. Although she is allergic to cats, she enjoys helping any that come in. She enjoys going to the beach, eating good food, and watching Transformer movies.
Mikayla is a recent graduate of Florida International University, where she earned a B.S. in Biology and B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies. She is working toward becoming a veterinarian, and hopes to continue gather experience and knowledge in veterinary medicine.
Samantha is a Veterinary Technician who has been providing excellent care to our patients since 2021. Samantha is a student at Florida International University, studying biological sciences with hopes to work in wildlife veterinary medicine in the future. Samantha loves to spend time with her 3 mixed breed rescue dogs and cat and has a passion for competitive dancing.
After a career as a paralegal, Vanessa followed her passion for animals and transitioned into a veterinary receptionist role at Red Bird Animal Clinic. The transition has made her flourish, and she loves the work she is now doing. She feels fortunate to be part of such a dedicated, wonderful team and to be able to help any pet and parent in need.
Winny is a graduated FIU Alumni with her Bachelors in Biology. Since 2017, she has been part of the Red Bird Animal Clinic team. She loves to spend time with her family and her baby daughter.
